    Cologne Guide

Head to the heart of Cologne, where the Gothic Cathedral of St. Peter dominates the skyline. Imposing, impressive and magnificent, the 157-metre-high cathedral was built in 1322, but it took 600 years for the construction to be completed.

St. Peter’s cathedral is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of Germany’s top attractions.

The Old City Hall dates back to the 15th century and is Germany’s oldest city hall. With Gothic, Renaissance and modern elements, it is an elegant building with bells ringing twice a day.

Of the 30 museums that you’ll come across in Cologne, your choice won’t be easy; however, we do suggest you don’t miss the following:

    • The Ludwig Museum, a museum of modern art boasting excellent collections of pop art, surrealism, abstract art and masterpieces by Picasso, Warhol and Lichtenstein

    • The Romano-Germanic Museum with archaeological collections focusing on the conservation of the Roman cultural heritage in Cologne

    • The Chocolate Museum, completely and utterly dedicated to chocolate, chocolate history, chocolate-making and all kinds of chocolate-y activities; this is one of the 10 most important museums in Germany!

Cologne offers a wide variety of nightlife, festivals and activities; if you’re around on November the 11th, you’ll have the amazing opportunity to witness – and why not, become a part of – the Carnival of Cologne, along with hundreds of other locals and visitors!

The official language of Cologne is German, but English and French are also widely spoken.
