    Information about Copenhagen

Copenhagen is Denmark’s capital and, with a population of 1,230,000 is one of the world’s friendliest capitals – both to the people and the environment. The city was founded by the Vikings and soon evolved into the metropolis we now know.

Copenhagen is known as “The City of Spires”, due to the fact that its flat skyline is disrupted only by the sharp spires of the buildings.
The city’s strategic location at the mouth of the Baltic Sea has led to a further economic growth and overall development, making it one the major economic and commercial centre among the Scandinavian countries. Moreover, Copenhagen’s quality of life is known to be one of the highest on the world.

    Copenhagen Guide

    • The bronze statue of Andersen’s Little Mermaid is one of Denmark’s most popular landmarks, attracting hundreds of visitors since 1913!

    • The Rosenborg Castle is the former royal residence and now houses an interesting museum with the Royal Collection. Items include jewels, crowns and other royal artifacts.

    • You should not miss the chance to visit the Round Tower (Rundetårn), built in 1642 as an astronomical observatory to serve the nearby university. Do try to get to the top, the view is fantastic!

Take a stroll across the picturesque canal Nyhavn and take your time admiring all the historical buildings you’ll come actoss. Continue to the medieval centre of Copenhagen and notice the Royal Library that houses today around 21 million books, important documents and rare manuscripts.

Tivoli Park would be the perfect ending to your day in Copenhagen, especially if you’re travelling with kids. This is the world’s second oldest and fourth largest amusement park!

If you’re more of an alternative kind of traveller, you’ll particularly enjoy Christiania. This self-declared autonomous region is actually a very successful social experiment, acknowledged even by the Danish government. It was founded in 1971 and has been, ever since, a Free City within the city of Copenhagen, with many families as permanent residents.

Danish is the official language of Denmark, but practically everyone speaks excellent English.
