Parque Central, officially Plaza de la Constitución, is the city’s main focal point, dominated by the grand Government Palace (Palacio Nacional de la Cultura).
The Palace was built in 1943 by imprisoned citizens – imprisoned by Dictator Jore Ubico. Nowadays the whole building serves as a city museum.

Having endured the catastrophic earthquakes that shook the city to the ground, this neoclassical building stands in a particularly imposing way, inspiring awe and respect.
