The most beautiful beach in Salinas, the most photographed and featured in the majority of covers and tourist leaflets about Salinas, is the Playa Chipipe. This dreamy golden-sanded beach stretches from the Salinas Yacht Club to the west, crossing the Salinas Malecón, passing by the largest and most luxurious hotels and resorts.

Named after the chocolate colour the sea gets due to the large waves that dominate the peninsula, La Chocolatera is the number one destination for surfers and holds a magnificent location.

During your break from all the fantastic beaches of Salinas, you could head to the city centre and visit two of its best museums:

    • The Museo de Ballenas is a small museum dedicated to the natural history and biology of whales and dolphins. Collections are fascinating, with highlight being a complete skeleton of a 12-metre-long humpback whale.

    • The Museo Salinas Siglo XXI consists of two sections; the first one focuses on archaeological findings that are related to the pre-Columbian cultures from the wider region of Salinas and the second one presents the maritime history of Salinas.

Finally, head to Ecuasal for a sight of great beauty and importance; the salt ponds of Ecuasal are a splendid location that is also the home of over 130 bird species, including some rare species of migratory birds. The official language of Salinas is Spanish, but Quicha, Shuar and ten more native languages are widely spoken in Ecuador.
