    Information about Warsaw

Warsaw is the capital of Poland and, with a population of around 2,500,000, we can say with certainty that it’s one of the most fast-growing European capitals. Warsaw’s history is defined by the mass destruction it faced during war times, especially – ironically- right before Hitler’s fall. But, as history always teaches us, when there’s will, there’s a way!

Warsaw’s new Old Town was rebuilt exactly as the previous one, using old pictures and architecture designs that survived the war. Today, it still is the single most popular point of interest in the city.
Curiosity grows across travelers around the world. What might this special attribute, power, skill, you name it, be that Warsaw and its people have keeping them alive and shining? The best way to come up with an answer, is to just visit Warsaw!

    Airport

Warsaw’s international airport (Lotnisko Chopina w Warszawie) is located 10 kilometres southwest of Warsaw and can be reached by rail and by the buses 175,188 and N32.

    Getting around Warsaw

You can get around Warsaw using the bus, tram or railway system. Fares start at 3.60zł and minimum taxi fare is 7.10zł.

    Warsaw Guide

Your day in Warsaw could not start anywhere else, other than the Old Town, totally destroyed during the wars and rebuilt from scratch in the 20th century.

Warsaw’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as an excellent example of a full reconstruction of a historic area dating back to the 13th and spanning to the 20th century.
Next to the Old Town, you can see the reconstruction of the Royal Palace of Warsaw, the original building of which, built in 1,300, was badly damaged and destroyed. An art collection of great value came with the palace, but all is left of it is a small number of items that survived because someone had hidden them before the war started.

Many of Warsaw’s museums are worth visiting, if you’d like to know more about the city’s history, art or culture:
    • The Muzeum Pawilon-X, housed in a real Nazi prison

    • The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews

    • The National Museum of Warsaw, featuring exciting archaeological, medieval and classic art collections

    • The Chopin Museum, devoted to the great Polish composer Frédéric Chopin

Polish is the official language of Warsaw. While you will most probably be able to communicate in English too, a Polish phrasebook would surely come in handy.
